How To Choose The Perfect Thailand Hotels For Your Trip

By Tom S Mason

Its people are friendly, its food is deliciously exotic, its beaches are perfect, its culture is interesting and its shopping is world class. On top of this, it's affordable. It is no wonder that millions of tourists flock to the Thai Kingdom every year. Since tourism is such an important part of the nation's economy, you're guaranteed to find Thailand hotels, no matter what you're willing to spend and which areas you want to visit.

The Kingdom of Thailand is the tourism powerhouse in South-East Asia. However, it is still affordable and you can get a lot of value for your baht. Thai is the official language but in the main tourist centers, like Bangkok and the island paradise of Phuket, you won't have a problem finding someone who can speak English.

The capital city, Bangkok, is a bustling metropolitan area with eleven million inhabitants. In Thai it is known as Krung Thep. Infamous for its red-light district, the city also has something to offer for every taste, whether you want to focus on food and culture, ancient architecture, partying up a storm or maxing out your credit card in the shopping malls and markets.

Most Bangkok hotels are concentrated in only a few districts. The most luxurious and expensive ones are in the financial district and nightlife center of Silom and the riverside district known as Thonburi, close to the floating markets. Siam Square and Sukhumvit offer options ranging from moderately priced to expensive but here you'll be close to the city's nightlife and shopping centers. If you're on a strict budget, you may want to explore the backpackers' accommodation in the Khao San Road.

If a beach holiday in Thailand is more your thing, you're likely to spend at least a few days on Phuket. From this island in the south of the country, you can travel to many other beach destinations. With its beaches, spas and jungle, Phuket is also a destination in itself.

Most tourists choose Phuket hotels along the beaches on the island's western side. The most popular beach is Patong with its party atmosphere. Karon is a well-developed beach too, as is Kata. However, if you don't want to be overrun by other tourists, you're better off looking for accommodation in Phuket Town, on the south-eastern coast or more inland.

Another way to avoid tourist crowds is to visit the Land of Smiles during the low season. The quietest time of year is between July and October, when it's monsoon season. There are afternoon showers most days and it is very humid, but you'll get plenty of time to spend in the sun too. If you just want a beach holiday, March through to June is a good choice. Since this is the hottest time of the year, fewer tourists book their Thailand holidays during these months. High season falls during the cooler months of November to February.

Many travel agents offer package deals that are good value for money. You may also plan your own itinerary and book the Thailand hotels of your choice. There are many websites with information on accommodation in the Land of Smiles. Just remember that it's always better to book ahead.
