Useful Tips To Save Money on Your Travels

By Emily Collins

Before you finalising packing, consider whether you really need to take that much. Maybe you only need to take one bag between two people? Most budget airlines will offer great deals on flights, but travellers could find themselves stung by those extra hidden costs which pop up at the last minute. You've already made your decision at this point so inevitably you accept all the extras.

Work out whether you can fit all your luggage within your free carry-on bags and one shared suitcase. Just think: the savings on your additional suitcase could cover the cost of lunch - or a round of cocktails!

Walking around your destination is not only a cost-free way to get from local point A to local point B, but it's perfect for getting your bearings. Exploring can be a very enjoyable activity. For instance, in Protaras Cyprus the area is dotted with palm trees, and the coastline made up of crystal clear bays which just beg to be photographed. Fig Tree Bay is a gem of a beach, while the cliffs at Cape Greco offers stunning views. Many destinations will even have local walking tours which only cost you the price of a tip at the end. If you find one of these, it's a worthy investment.

You'll most likely want to take in some cultural sites too. Here it is key to know where is budget-friendly. Do a bit of research before you travel to see if there are any free museums or attractions close to your holiday resort.

Free museums will often not be as popular or as busy as their fee-charging counterparts, and you may find a gem you would otherwise have missed. And if you are going to pay for an entry fee, don't blow your budget on hype. Speak to locals and ask what sights they find the most interesting. It will rarely be the major tourist sights!
