Evaluating Steps To Becoming An Aviation Project Manager

Among the professions in the aerospace industry is that of an aviation project manager.

A project manager is one who is in charge of working with authorities, in terms of rules and laws, to organize, control and direct activities in an airport. He works with stakeholders and other staff to accomplish the vision and mission of the company by coordinating the various production factors therein.

To be an aviation manager, one must fulfill the following requirements. Firstly, the applicant should acquire an undergraduate degree in aviation management, public administration, business administration and financial management. This degree must be accompanied by certified member credential certificates as well as one of Accredited Airport Executives.

Four years experience is required for the candidates to obtain the position. One is expected to have skills in federal aviation rules and regulations, knowledge in financial analysis, good communication, managerial capabilities and supervisory capacity. Other skills include spreadsheets and word processing computer skills.

In summary, an applicant must obtain a degree in aviation management or related courses which cover business, mathematics and aviation related sciences. This may be enhanced by completing an internship in local airports to supplement ones studies. The next step is to obtain and maintain certification from airport certification bodies such The Airport Executives Association in America. Credit is given when one attends seminars and completing related college courses.

Such a manager is does the following roles. Initiating procedures, planning strategies for the organization, drawing designs for the same, executing the planned work, controlling activities and staff and monitoring them and closing the plan by the end of their contact term.

Initiating involves studying and determining the scope of the business and the nature of work ahead. Once those aspects are understood, specific goals and objectives for the plan are established. Thereafter, one needs to review current statistics of the business and study how operations are carried about and how to improve them. This information helps them to come up with the project plan. Several factors such as cost of operations, time, resource allocation and staff mobilization are considered.

Executing describes the course of action on the framework developed. The company goals are the main pointer in this stage. Here, all elements of the system are coordinated such as people, money, rules, infrastructures and information systems in order to bring about the realization of the objectives laid down. The operations begin.

When it comes to controlling and monitoring, one is expected to oversee and supervise the working of the lid down plan. This is concerned with identifying problems and dealing with them, observing how the players work, measuring progress of work, maintaining the rules of such a plan and developing analysis of work involved.

The main role of a project manager is to close the project. This involves filing documentation and closing any contracts and processes remaining in the plan. This is mainly after achieving the objectives of the business.
