A Basic Guide To Colt 1911 Customization

By Phyllis Schroeder

Guns too have personalities and style. Should a particular gun not fit into what the owner feels is the right personality or style, then they can have them customized. All that the owner requires is to have a clear picture of what they need. Professionals abound who specialize in colt 1911 customization. Such professionals can work on the gun so long as the changes are feasible and safe.

Most clients opt to adapt changes to their guns based on targeting, carrying, personal defence, plinking, war, hunting, collection, presentation or simply adoration. Customization of firearms revolves around three basic premises. These are beautification, reliability and accuracy. The best gunsmiths aspire to find a perfect balance between these three. Where firearms and their basic intentions are concerned, form needs to follow function otherwise form is pointless.

The Army and Air Force wings of the US military commissioned the initial modifications upon the colt 1911. They intended to get better performance at war competitions for their own teams. All the other developments in this regard arise from this first customization with the intention of obtaining more accuracy and weapon reliability.

Firearms need to have sights allowing good repeatable sight pictures. Trigger pulls must not be too heavy. This is because it would make sights jump away from aiming points when a shooter squeezed a round off. Ergonomics should not add to shooter fatigue or cause pain when the shooter is firing.

Addition of accessories appearing on various media and magazines is usually feasible within the process of customization. Two categories feature here. It is either integrated to the firearm or an extension. Examples include rubber grips added on and gun stippling or checkering. A challenge to this is that an accentuated grip may impede shooting for small-handed shooters.

Attaining mechanical accuracy falls into a much simpler concept. With the objective of allowing a firearm to function properly, the gunsmith needs to make the firearm shoot from the same spot mechanically whenever a shooter squeezes a trigger. Should the barrel remain undamaged this forms the least complicated area of attaining accuracy. Over time superior sights have evolved, better triggers made and so have superior barrel systems of lock up. Much of these have drizzled right down to today carry guns as versions of a customized 1911 full size.

In its most simple form, accuracy denotes performing the same action every time. Making a firearm accurate is ensuring it does this limiting any anomalies to human error. With this achievement, the problem proceeds to rest with making sure the shooter perfects shooting into an art.

The industry in this field has changed drastically centring on evolution and not revolution. Better optics, electronics, finishes, new alloys and CNC machines in their entirety have brought changes to operations. A popular restyling form revolves on finishing. Digitized finishes and colours such as Digital Desert Sand Camouflage enables environment blending for such weapons. However, the US military maintain their lead in as far as customization goes. Combat situations will not let them take chances.
