A Boating License Can Be Obtained At Your Convenience

By Freida Lamb

A New Jersey boating license is in actual fact a Boating Safety Certificate issued by the State of New Jersey. The educational certificate can easily be obtained by any boater wanting to legally operate a sailing vessel in the State's non-tidal waterways. Valid on-line courses are becoming increasingly popular as proctored exams are available in many areas.

In this way the boater scores on time, money and any cumbersome situation. A certificate will only be released to anyone 16 years and older who intends using a motorized vessel on the water. Children and adolescents under sixteen that want to manage an electrically energized boat that is longer than 12 feet are subjected to a different set of rules.

A safety certificate is not required for sailing vessels without motors. If the applicant has just turned 16, the parent or guardian have to bestow their consent. When the certificate is issued can application be made for the license. The document covers all mechanically powered vessels such as motorboats and jet-skis that will operate in the State's waterways.

After the exam, the candidate has to qualify and succeed a 6 point ID verification test. It is necessary not only for personal protection but also a 100% confirmation of the identity. All manners of dishonest activities regarding personal information is cancelled out in this way.

The Birth Certificate is one of the documents requested for the test. If you are from Puerto Rico and your birth certificate issue date is before July 2010, it will not be valid. A new one has to be obtained from the Puerto Rican authorities. This was set in place to combat criminal activities in the department.

Birth certificates that have been handed out in the Hudson county region before 1965 are also not acceptable. Applicants have to renew them and the last step to take would be the payment of the $18 fee. For a renewal of a new jersey boating license the same steps have to be followed and adhered to.
