Finally On Print -- Experts Share Tips On How To Select A Ski Vacation Home

By Matt Tarses

Every winter, millions of Americans take to the slopes to go skiing, snowboarding or both. The fascination of America in the winter vacation keeps snowballing, no pun intended, same with the number of winter vacation homes available for rent.

Whether your party is composed of your beloved family or some old friends from way back, these homes are great bonding headquarters. These ski homes are indeed a refreshing alternative to a standard hotel room, because you can save up on your food expenses, for starters, especially if you are traveling with a large group of family and/or friends, and with amenities such as storage for your gear and full kitchens, you get more than the average hotel room can offer you.

Since looking for a ski vacation home can sometimes be a challenge, is it possible to seek advice from people who actually know what they are talking about? No, it's not the clever rhymes involving popular names. These tips come courtesy of experienced ski experts at ResortQuest (tm), a ski vacation home rental company dedicated to quality service AND also the largest in the country.

Look Before You Book-Look for companies that offer a simple way to determine a home's suitability for you and your winter sport companions. Go on the 'net and explore their website. It should provide photos as well as detailed descriptions of accommodations. It should also tell you the home's proximity to the slopes and available services.

The "Good Stuff" -- When we say "good stuff" we are pertaining to special discounts and other offers, such as those on lift tickets, ski lessons and for the 'after-party' of skiing, tourist attractions or entertainment packages.

Amenities -- Ensure that the property's amenities are all accounted for, to avoid inconveniencing your party. Do you have ample storage space for skis, snowboards, protective clothing and other skiing gear and apparel? How large is the washer/dryer, do both come with the other, and can they fit all your gear inside? Do all of your party members have enough towels each day to last them the entire trip?

What Do They Say, Kay? -- Research, do your homework, whatever you call it; just make sure you find out if the property has a high percentage of satisfied guests. You can give them a call or scour the Internet's forums for information on this topic.

Rest Well, Ski Well -- Make your sleeping arrangements in advance; who's going to bunk with who? Take into account when travelers plan to hit the slopes. If you are not able to find a vacation accommodation where each of the bedrooms has their own bathroom, you will have to ask each team member to draw up their preferred bathroom schedules and take it from there -- never the easiest thing to do.

Feeding Time-Can arrangements be made in advance to have the pantry stocked? Are there places nearby from which food can be delivered? Get your party together before the trip and come up with a definite budget for food and drinks, and make sure there is somebody assigned to cooking and cleaning respectively.

Just In Case-Be sure you can take care of urgent needs while at the property-from getting an extra toothbrush to dealing with medical emergencies. In the event that you are not able to handle any fortuitous event that may come your way, it is always best to have the assurance that somebody from the rental management company or office would be able to assist any time of the day or week.
