Various Uses for Torch Lighters

By Kayla Kelly

One of the most difficult tasks facing anyone who is a smoker of cigars or pipes is finding the right type of lighter. There are many different factors to consider when looking for the right lighter. You want to look at the type of fuel that is used in a particular type of lighter along with the design and feel of the lighter. One of the most popular types of lighters to use for lighting a cigar or pipe is a torch lighter. Many people are not aware of single, double, and triple flame torch uses so they generally avoid them and go with lighters they are more comfortable with.

Cigarette smokers have one of the easiest lighter choices to make. The tip of a cigarette is so easy to light that almost any flame will suffice. Further, there is no need to over light a cigarette as there is no benefit to having an increasingly powerful flame. As a result, disposable single flame lighters will suffice for lighting a cigarette every time.

Many individuals who love to smoke cigars and pipes tend to gravitate toward the double flame torch lighters. The reasons for this lighter being such a fan favorite amongst cigar smokers is strictly practical. When you are smoking a pipe or cigar, it is critical to make sure that the burn is even so that you can get the full flavor of the tobacco. A single flame torch lighter will burn unevenly and could ruin the flavor of the cigar or pipe tobacco. These lighters are also so heavily recommended because they make sure to get the entire cigar lit on the first try.

Aside from outdoor enjoyment, torch lighters are great emergency tools, as well. Unlike common butane lighters, they usually have very durable cases that you can rely upon to hold up under tough conditions. The flames can be directed, even upside down, so you can hold them on stubborn fuel for campfires and other substances that might need to be heated for a while before they catch flame. The flame from the torch lighter will not reverse itself and end up burning your fingers while you do this. This is actually what makes them so popular with pipe smokers, in addition to cigar smokers.

If you're interested in a lighter to keep in your shop or garage, torch lighters are great choices for all of the reasons listed above. They usually have large enough reservoirs that they hold plenty of fuel so, if you need to use them for extended times, they won't run dry on you just when you need them the most. If you do keep one stored most of the time, be sure you follow the correct procedure. Some manufacturers recommend that you remove the flint for long-term storage, so be sure to check the instructions for your lighter to see if this applies to yours.
