A Guide To Adrenaline Rafting

By Allan Marsh

Rapids rafting is a good way to give your heart a good exercise. Below are some basic information about rapids rafting.

More and more people are into rapids rafting over the years. People tend to go in groups for a family gathering, friends reuniting and even corporate team building exercises. You get a lot of fun and thrill when you raft down the rapids.

Simply stated, white water rafting is the act of going through a river's more turbulent areas. The turbulent areas of the river are the rapids. Generally, rapids are formed because of constriction, gradient, and obstruction. Gravity makes the water flow downhill. If constriction is present, then the water will speed up and gets turbulent. Speed will increase if the gradient gets steeper, and obstructions will cause turbulence. All these will contribute to rapids formation and will also cause the water to froth. When you raft the rapids, you want to get through them without getting flipped or dragged under.

Rapids are divided into six types. Category 1 is for smooth rivers that have no rapids. It goes on to Category 6, which is the hardest. Category 3 and 4 are the most common for river rafting trips since it gives enough excitement but no much risk.

River rafts are usually big in size and sturdy. A raft can hold six to twelve persons, with equal numbers on each side. Although an expert guide controls the steering at the back, most rafting companies allow the passengers to paddle on each side of the raft in their corresponding spots.

River rafting has a certain risk factor and safety is paramount. Helmets and life jackets are a must. Falling out of the raft can be a common occurrence depending on the river conditions. All the people who raft the rapids should know how to swim.

There are thousands of rivers that are perfect for rafting trips. Most people choose a rafting company for their trip since the company is already familiar with the river conditions and has the necessary equipment.
