The Secrets Of Cheap Air Travel Revealed

By Matt Tarses

Using public transportation and youth hostels, are a few of many ways most travelers travel and live cheaply. But one thing you can't skimp on is the airline fare. What stops many people from taking their dream vacation to the locations of their choosing is the expensive airfare.

Now there are various options for travelers when it comes to buying airline tickets. Today, there are many ways you can negotiate for airfare, rendering fixed rates to destinations virtually obsolete.

The first step to taking that dream vacation should be careful and advanced planning; this can save you a small fortune in terms of air fare. Plan at least two to three months before your trip. Booking your ticket at least 21 days before you leave can get you a 20% rebate. You can even save as much as 50% on your trip, if you're lucky.

Checking the seasonal and off season rates and comparing them against each other would be the next logical step. If you can reschedule your vacation to a month which is not a part of the peak season, you can save a bundle not only on tickets but also on accommodation. There are certain times of the year when airlines make special offers. There might be discounts that come with these offers, so be sure to take advantage of them.

Nowadays, a more convenient way of booking tickets is to go to the internet. All you are going to need is your credit card and information about your destination, travel time and the class you would like to travel in. Don't forget that you can usually travel first class during the off season for a price just a little over the price of economy. The good thing about logging on to a travel portal is the wealth of information you can get about your destination. Cheap tickets may be the main reason to look up these sites, but they usually have good offers for accommodations and entertainment in the city of your choice as well.

An added advantage is the e-checking facility that some of these sites offer so you won't have to wait in line at the check in counter; they will keep your boarding pass ready for you. Remember to travel on weekdays instead of weekends if you are traveling within your own country or state. On weekdays, most airlines don't even hit 50% of their capacity; so instead of leaving Saturday morning try to see if you can reschedule for Friday afternoon.

Whatever ticket you intend to buy, try to keep the options open for yourself. Buy a ticket with a refund or at least an exchange policy. This feature isn't offered by most cheap or discount tickets. Buying a cheap airline ticket is the easiest task in the world these days. So now you're all set to take the vacation of your dreams even on a budget. Bon Voyage!
